Jay's Seafood Restaurant has been family owned and operated for 41 years. Specializing in fresh seafood, steaks and fine wine at reasonable prices. Our story is rich in history. During the period ranging into the late 1800's, Dayton was one of the leading areas in the nation for flour milling. One of these mills, located on the Miami Erie Canal, was known as the Joseph Kratochwill Dayton Corn and Grist Mill. This building was constructed in the 1850's. Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight you are dining in the former Dayton Corn and Grist Mill.. In 1882, James Jacob Ritty opened the Pony House Restaurant. He commissioned wood carvers from Barney and Smith Car Works to turn 5,400 pounds of Honduras Mahogany into a bar. The fruit of their labors is the bar you now see standing in Jay's. Join us seven nights a week for a great dining experience

I love this place! They prepare tasty meals, their menu is large, The chief cook in that spot is very trained, I love very much trying all their food. The food is consistently fresh and tasty, the service towards the guests is nice. I often go to this place and I not even once was unsatisfied. I highly recommend it.

Amazing seafood! I had the Chef's special - black pepper crusted Tuna, so delish! My son ordered the fried shrimp from the kid's menu, they were ginormous!! Great, old world, sophisticated atmosphere and friendly staff. We will definitely be back...and bring our friends with us!!

Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Clearly one of the BEST Dayton restaurants to visit! The fried walleye was to die for -- and so was the potatoes, bread, crab rangoon...pretty much everything I ate was spot on. Highly recommend!

Jay's is a staple of the downtown area. Walking in you feel as though you are not in Dayton anymore. Service is always on point. My socks have not been completely knocked off with the food though. Listen, I know its Dayton, OH and it is not the go to city for Seafood, but we can still give it our best. Would highly encourage you to try at least once.

A very well run place. Having been an establishment for so long they really have their service down. It is not one of your overly compensating type of service which has a lot of showy service. They are great, just right and the food at the end just exquisite. Would definitely revisit and recommend everyone to do the same. As it is a fancy place don't expect prices to be cheap. :)

Service was Great! Average salad and bread. Lobster was good. Linguini was a bit too cheesy and greasy but the shrimp was excellent. It was the best shrimp in Dayton. The flavor of the shrimp was outstanding.

It's our go-to restaurant. Food, wine list, drinks, desserts, and service are all top notch. Favorites: grilled rare tuna, calamari, Scotch soy scallops and any salmon dish. My husband really likes their fillet mignon. Great monthly 3-course specials.

We like a lot eating out. Last night we went to this fine place which we didn’t know before. We spent a beautiful time there with delicious dishes and a professional team and a distinguished cuisine. We added this place in our phone list and we will surely go again very soon. We warmly recommend.

Wow! Who knew Dayton could have a cute and classy hole in the wall place for seafood! We split a crab platter and the food was the perfect amount. Fun place for a date night!

It was New Year's Eve and we wanted to go somewhere special. The fisherman's platter was cooked to perfection. The scallops melted in your mouth. The fish was alright. Our waiter was great, very personable and he was able to spend extra time with us since we went late to avoid the rush . Decor was beautiful and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Expensive, but worth if you want to create a special memory.

We had reservations for 7 and we were immediately seated. We asked for crab Rangoon as an appitiser and it we agreed it was the best crab Rangoon we have all had. Stuffed with sweet delicious crab!I had the Parmesan crusted halibut with a wedge salad. It was huge and delicious. The Wedge had Roquefort dressing, bacon and cherry tomatoes.

Forgot how great this place is. We had reservations at 7 PM and despite being packed, we had a table immediately on a Friday night. The cheese sticks and poke were amazing. I had the salmon en croute which was good but the lobster sauce was the star. My brother in law had the Greek swordfish which I'd recommend. Delicious. The dessert menu is great as well with some great treats, coffee and even sweet scotches. It's a place to take your time and enjoy your company, as I've seen some complain about how long food takes. We were there for about 2 hours with appetizers, salads, entree, and desserts/cocktails.

The food and service are top notch. The atmosphere is warm, rich and inviting with a interesting, historical backstory. The food prepared perfectly, the fish is fresh, the appetizers delicious and the drink selection was above par. Expensive evening but worth it for those special occasions.

Honestly not worth the price and the time. Went for Valentine’s Day at 6:00 with reservation got a table instantly, our server was great. His name is Cory and he is not the issue. The issue is the food!!! We ordered the lobster platter. We asked if it was enough to share and Cory replied with yes. 3 pieces of shrimp, lobster tail, and 2 scallops, it also comes with salad and potatoes. The fish was dry and flavorless, not worth the $50 price it was. On top of that we waited 50 minutes to receive such product. Additionally the wine was flavorless just rubbing alcohol after exchanging it for another type still no flavor. Huge disappointment as we were expecting great food. I do not recommend.

Clean and friendly but unfortunately the crab legs had an odd taste. Unfortunately the restaurant was not able to replace because it was there last batch. I was disappointed because I was there to celebrate and chose the resteraunt specifically for the crab legs. I had to sit and watch my husband enjoy his food. Which was very good and he was pleased.

3 course meal, $33, this is the 2nd course, braised ribs in risotto, excellent food and service, cool decor

A Dayton institution. Incredible seafood for the area. Blackened Swordfish is amazing. Don't skip the cheese logs. Cheesecake and chocolate mousse are excellent desserts.

Had not been there in over 15 years. What a disappointment. Tried the crab cake appetizer. It was mostly all breading served with cole slaw which may have been rancid. Dinner took 45 minutes to get. Just ok. Green beans were soggy and lifeless. Just not what i remembered. Spent $100 for 2 people. Definitely not worth it.

Service was friendly and efficient. The food was good. The decor is very cool, but feels old and worn. Like all Seafood places, it's more expensive than it should be

Absolutely amazing! Our server was fantastic! She had the best attitude and awesome smile. The food was top notch and worth every penny! We have come to Jay's Seafood every anniversary and have always had a good experience but this year it was BY FAR the best and all because of the service we received! Thank you Leanne!

Jay's has been around a long time and each visit does not disappoint. It is still a hot spot for those that have tried it before and provide excellent food and service. The drinks are great and staff is very friendly. A steak or Crab leg are well worth the price. A must try in the Dayton Area on a Friday or Saturday night. Wonderful atmosphere!! Old historic building which is beautiful!! Food is excellent!! A must place to eat in Dayton!!

I celebrated my graduation earlier this evening in this delicious restaurant. Well it was a delightful evening and the place was clearly the reason for this successful meeting. The stuff cooperated in a sweet style, the cooking was delicious and my friends were extremely thrilled. We shall surely visit again for more joyful events. Thank you very much.

I'm from Georgia so to me, seafood is oysters, a catch of the day, craw fish, shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, etc., etc., so in my opinion I felt the menu was very limited. However, being in the Midwest, this place was able to suffice in quality of food and service. The atmosphere is really nice as well with a beautiful antique bar. I ordered the steamed mussels as an appetizer and was a little disappointed in the size of the mussels but the quantity made up for it. However, my scallops were huge and very delicious and cooked just right (not rubbery). My date is not a seafood lover so the Filet Mignon they ordered was superb. I think if this place had a little more variety on the menu then I could give them 5 stars. Overall, I would go back.
